So, I realized as soon as I had posted this blog yesterday that it was taking about an hour to load up all the pics. I resized them so it'll be more like five minutes.
Being the smart guy that I am, I went up to Tennessee to find the perfect woman. That means that every year I get to spend some of my holidays in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, and this year there was enough snow to have a little bit of fun in the fields around my mother-in-law's house.
My neices and my sister in law got together and built a snowman on the morning after all the snow fell, but by the time we got up to visit on Sunday, the temperatures had already started rising. Tuesday I got permission from the girls to give old Frosty a good smashing. It went pretty well.
getting a good run up
the follow-through makes all the difference
check out Frosty's head still suspended in the air!
Sprawling out on the ground, flush with success, I decided to try my luck against a more formidable opponent. After building the snowman, the whole crew (aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc.) got out to roll up a huge snowball. When I showed up on Sunday, it was already frozen solidly to the ground, but I figured I'd be able to smash it up with one well-timed flying kick.
at this point, as you can see from my billowing hood, i'm still pretty confident
good air-time, knees prepared for a full power explosion from the hips down. success is assured!
this is the point where I realize that I've just jumped straight down onto a ball of solid ice that probably weighs at least twice what I do. My backside says 'ouch' at me.
now, this is going to sound a little silly, but I convinced myself that with a slightly different approach, I'd be able to completely destroy this snowboulder. now my knees and akles join in on the party line of pain.
yes, these photos ARE in order. that's me completely failing to affect the snowboulder in any way. instead, i just shot myself backward off the thing and onto my already sore backside. Score = josh 0 snowboulder 2. The score finished out at 0-3, but i'll save the most gruesome photo to post tomorrow. In the meantime, notice how completely unaffected the snowboulder is through the series of pictures.
Between my first ever Kinex (spelling?) boxing match, playing animal charades for a solid hour with my gorgeous little neices, and doing my best not to hurt myself learning contact juggling, I'm going to be sore for the next week. It's totally worth it though.
Hope your New Year's is awesome, and don't forget to check back tomorrow night for the final installment of 'JD gets trashed by snow.'
